Today marks the 36th anniversary of Elvis Presley's death. And despite him having died when I was not even two years old yet, I have always been a fan. It is something that I shared with Mama and also something that I am diligently passing along to my boys.
Here are the Memphis Press-Scimitar newspapers from the days and week surrounding Elvis's death. The first is the newspaper released the day after his death, and the second is a special edition newspaper dated August 17, 1977, that reprinted all the stories in that five day period.
Of course, pretty much ever since this day in 1977, conspiracy theories have abounded regarding the fact that Elvis did not die, faked his death, still lives at Graceland, and/or is working at some po-dunk gas station where you can have an attendant pump gas for you.
Nevertheless, if Elvis were still alive, he would be 78 right now, and looking forward to a 79th birthday celebration in January.
This one's for you EP!

Maybe I didn't treat you
Quite as good as I should have
Maybe I didn't love you
Quite as often as I could have
Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance
To keep you satisfied, satisfied
Maybe I didn't hold you
All those lonely, lonely times
And I guess I never told you
I'm so happy that you're mine
If I make you feel second best
Girl, I'm sorry I was blind
You were always on my mind
You were always on my mind
Tell me, tell me that your sweet love hasn't died
Give me, give me one more chance
