The first time I ever made this trail mix was for a Diego-themed birthday party. The recipe was called "Diego's Rain Forest Trail Mix" and it fit in nicely with the theme. Since then, I became hip to the game that you could modify the fruits, nuts, and even the other ingredients for whatever time of year you were making it. So, there are many variations, including today's Autumn Trail Mix.
Autumn Trail Mix
3 cups mixed nuts
1/3 cup white chocolate chips
1/3 cup butterscotch chips
1/3 cup chocolate chips
1/3 cup M&Ms
1 cup dried cherries
1 cup dried blueberries
3/4 cup shredded coconut
- Measure ingredients and place in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag.
- Seal bag and shake to incorporate.
- Store trail mix in an airtight container.
Notes:
Since this is Autumn Trail Mix (a little sweeter than my usual trail mix), I used Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds for part of the nuts.
Even though this recipe has a few sweet bits in it, it still is a great way to get your kids to eat dried fruits and nuts. It also packs easily in lunch boxes in snack-sized baggies.
