Help Me Win the Weekly Style Awards :)

This is an addendum to my previous post "I Rented the Runway".  The good folks at RTR have seen fit to enter me into weekly Style Awards.  YAY!!!  The winner is determined by your votes, and is open to the public for a couple more days.  If I win, it means a free dress rental for me.  And I promise to share the dress around with each of you.  ;)

What Music Can I Play at My Halloween Party? (Besides the Monster Mash)

I think most people are aware that there aren't as many Halloween songs as Christmas songs. In fact, around here, some radio stations start playing Christmas music in late October (a pity and a crying shame if you ask me).

And while your event is probably not complete without the staple that is the Monster Mash (by Bobby "Boris" Pickett), you'll need to branch out to what I like to call "Halloween-adjacent" music in order to fill out your playlist.

These songs are family friendly and won't send the kids into shock and terror like horror movie theme songs or Rob Zombie tunes. You've probably seen on Pinterest the "jazzy Halloween" playlist. Well, there's nothing jazzy about this (unless you count the Fresh Prince's co-hort before Will went off on his own and became all popular and stuff.)

If you play these at your next Halloween party, don't be surprised if you hear, "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it."

The list is in no particular order or preference and incorporates music of different genres. If I've listed an alternate artist, it's just because I think that version is funky-fresh not because I don't like the original too. (Poke around to see if you prefer a different version of the same song.) 

And, yes, the list has 26 items because I could not decide whether the original Ghostbusters Theme or the Ghostbusters 2 Theme should make the list - so they're both on there. Give them both a listen. I'm sure you haven't heard them in a while, and I assure you, your kids should know the phrase, "I ain't afraid of no ghosts!" one way or the other.

Deanna's Unwritten Fashion Rule

Today marks my annual enactment of Deanna's Unwritten Fashion Rule- NO open-toed shoes after October 1!

And, yes, I am very serious- no more sandals,  no more flip flops, no more open-toed heels- not for this girl, at least, and not again until next Spring.  I have been a firm believer in dressing for the "season" for as long as I can remember.  I am always so happy to see Fall makes it's way back to the calendar, and pulling out the boots makes me giddy with delight each year.  

This little unwritten rule has certainly sparked debate with my fashion-forward friends and co-workers over the years, many of whom are happy to wear open-toed shoes well into the winter.  And that's ok.  I'm not necessarily offended to see others wearing open-toed shoes later in the year.  It's just not for me.

I think my love of dressing for the season is also based in practicality, though.  As we all know, even the warmest of fall and winter days usually start with chilly mornings and end with cool evenings, so the thought of cold toes peeking out just isn't for me.  Especially not when there are soooo many cute options for boots out there.

 

 Now, to switch out that shoe closet, and step down off my soapbox- right into a pair of toasty warm riding boots.  Happy Fall, everyone!
