If you've been following our blog for any amount of time, you probably know that we sneak in a sisters photo shoot here and there with Coke cans.
We usually get a chance to take these photos on our Girls Weekend trips when we're all together in the summer (and when Coke usually puts out their cans that have different sayings on them).
Here are a few photos we've taken in years past.
The first year we started doing Coca-Cola sisters photos, we found cans that said Sis!
The next year, Coke featured songs on their cans, so we opted for Summer, Summer, Summertime.
And last Girls Weekend, we really lucked out! Coke chose to add last names to their line, and we found three Harris Cokes!
But, we also wanted to see if we could be more creative with our photo shoots! So, we opted to try to recreate a vintage look with Coke can curlers.
Trust me when I say that the hardest part of this was drinking enough sodas so that each one of us would have 8 cans to use as curlers. 24 soda cans is A LOT of soda!
Supplies You'll Need for Soda Can Curlers
8 empty soda cans (washed and dried)
16 hair elastics that match your hair color
water to spray hair (optional)
comb
hair clips (optional)
We used this YouTube tutorial for how to roll our hair with soda can curlers (and the whole process is really easier than you'd think).
Retro Girls Photoshoot
When we were finished rolling our hair, we styled these photos with a few vintage elements - lawn flamingos, a strand of flamingo lights, and a vintage rotary phone.
The outfits we chose were retro style polka dot swimsuits, wedge sandals, and red lipstick.
We also took a few individual photos with a mint green vintage hair dryer.
Notes:
If you want to use soda cans to actually curl your hair, you should probably start with damp hair and then use a hair dryer to dry your hair before taking it down.
If you don't think you're quite ready for a full shot in a swimsuit, you can always opt to tighten up your shot to focus on your new hair-do.
You'd be in the company of such celebrities of Tyra Banks and Ashley Olsen.
Hope we've given you a little inspiration for your very own retro photo shoot with soda can curlers. It's a fun project for you and your sisters or girlfriends!
