About Us

Hello, Friends! We're so glad you could spend some time with us today.

The Harris Sisters is a personal blog created by three Southern sisters in 2012. We wanted to share with you information about today's lifestyle as well as inspirational articles on home decor, recipes, crafts, and family traditions.

We are three old souls who are sometimes most at home reminiscing about the "good old days." So don't be surprised if you catch us reminding you of long-forgotten and sometimes old-fashioned trends.  And we'll do our best to help you to resurrect them in a modern way to suit your own busy lifestyle.
But which one of us is which? Let us introduce ourselves:

Donna

My name is Donna. I am the oldest Harris Sister by only a few minutes. (Two of the Harris Sisters are twins!)

I have been married since the 1990s (which nowadays is a HUGE accomplishment), and I’m the mom of two awesome boys - Aidyn and Jaxon. The Harris Sisters were born and raised in North Carolina, and now I'm raising my family here too!

I love to cook and bake, so you'll see lots of tried and true family recipes on the blog. (Some that have even been passed down from our Grandma Elizabeth.)

I've been a vegetarian for most of my life, so if you're looking for meatless meal ideas, we've got you covered!

I learned to crochet when I was around 10 years old from a book that I checked out of the library! (Is that old school or what?)

You'll find all kinds of free crochet patterns on our blog from afghans to girls' dresses, hats to scarves, and ponchos to bags - the list goes on and on. So if crochet is your craft of choice, take a look around and see what tickles your fancy!

Hands down, my favorite holiday is Halloween. Between apple cider, pumpkin decorating, and watching favorite Halloween movies, there are just so many fun things to do this time of year! We share lots of tips and tricks on the blog for decorating your home for this spooky holiday and creating your own Halloween costumes, so make sure to check that out too!

Deanna

Howdy from Music City! That's Nashville, Tennessee, in case you didn't know. I'm Deanna, and I'm the middle child of this fine group of Harris Sisters. I make my home here in the Land of Country Music with my little family.

I am a long-time fan of country music. You will see the occasional reference to Dolly Parton here on the blog; that woman will always be my hero! And it doesn't hurt that we live here in the same city. I haven't made any personal "Dolly sightings" yet, but every now and then we have the great fortune of having a country music video filmed right here in our little town. So, if I ever meet my hero, you'll be the first to know!

I am in serious love with most things vintage. In my spare time, I enjoy hunting for treasures - whether they be in a department store or tucked away at a garage sale. In fact, some of my best finds have come from the monthly Nashville flea market. I regularly contribute to the One Man's Trash section of our blog, so check that out if you're a treasure hunter like me!

What else? Well, I consider myself a bit of a fashionista, so you'll occasionally see recommendations for beauty products or the latest fashions to keep you up to date on all the latest trends and styles.

Christmas is without a doubt my FAVORITE holiday, so if that's your favorite holiday too, make sure you poke around to see all of our posts about old-fashioned traditions, family recipes, home decorating tips, gift ideas, vintage holiday styling ideas, music playlists, Christmas book reviews, and more!

Misty

All good things come in threes. My name is Misty, and I’m the third Harris Sister. I'm also raising my family in North Carolina.

Recently, someone told me that I would like the NC Mountains because of all the hippies that live there. (No offense, of course.) I guess I am rather Boho Chic. I’ve also been called fiercely independent and a road warrior, but my favorite thing to answer to is "Mama."

I live with my hubby and three daughters, Charlotte, Emma, and Dolly, on the other side of the rainbow, I like to say. Where troubles melt like lemon drops, we drink sweet tea on the front porch and eat dinner together as a family every night.

I also like to travel and explore, though in recent years I’ve traded in my passport for a tent with the kids. I’m always on the lookout for places we all will enjoy, and I know I’ve succeeded in finding one when we start to refer back to the road trip with a “Remember when…” story.

Both older girls have been in theater for quite some time. From children's favorites like The Little Mermaid and Shrek to classic tales like A Christmas Carol and Beauty and the Beast, I've gained lots of experience with costume design for their plays. So, one of the major ways I contribute to the blog is concepting many of our blog sister photoshoots. You can find tips and tricks for styling similar photos here on the blog, and we've used many of the final photos as cover photos on our Facebook page.

So now that we've introduced ourselves, we hope that you can spend some time with us.

Happy browsing!
